For years, Kyle King of Gering dreamed of being a college football coach. Certain circumstances prevented him from pursuing that dream, but he’s not disappointed at all because he feels like he’s found his true calling in life – helping at-risk students graduate from high school and become productive members in the community.

GERING – Kyle King always knew he wanted to be a college football coach someday.
He grew up with a passion for playing the sport, and he excelled as an offensive and defensive lineman at Pleasant Valley High School in Chico, California. He then went on to enjoy a successful playing career at Modesto Junior College in Modesto, California, and then at Black Hills State University in Spearfish, South Dakota.
After graduating from Black Hills State University in 2012 with a bachelor’s degree in interdisciplinary studies, King wanted to obtain a master’s degree so he could be a full-time college football coach. So, he became a graduate assistant football coach at Chadron State College, spending two years there before earning his master’s degree in 2014 in organizational management.
“I was so excited to be a full-time college football coach,” King said. “I thought, ‘After I get my master’s degree, I’ll be able to coach anywhere in the country. I thought about coaching back home in California or possibly even coaching in the south somewhere.”
King’s coaching dreams, however, started to wilt away while he was in Chadron.
