Troy Brown of Gering, a Chief Deputy with the Scotts Bluff County Sheriff’s Department, has been named Nspire Today!’s Hometown Hero of the Week, sponsored by Schank Roofing in Scottsbluff.
Brown was appointed to the Chief Deputy position in 2013. Before that, he served as a sergeant for the Scotts Bluff County Sheriff’s Department from 2002 to 2013. Brown was a Deputy Sheriff from 1999 to 2002.
Before joining the Scotts Bluff County Sheriff’s Department, Brown served as a police officer for the City of Gering Police Department from 1994 to 1999.
Altogether, Brown has served in law enforcement for about 25 years. During that time, he’s also been a K9 handler at both the City of Gering Police Department and the Scotts Bluff County Sheriff’s Department. Brown has also been a defensive tactics instructor and an active shooter instructor.
Brown served in the Army from 1985 to 1989.
The person who nominated Brown said, “He’s a super friendly guy, and he does his job very well. I have a lot of respect for him. He really cares about people, and he wants everyone to be safe and happy. He’s like the ideal [law enforcement official] in my eyes.”
