‘We’re ready to celebrate’

When Camp Clarke Days in Bridgeport was cancelled last year because of the COVID pandemic – the first time the event had been cancelled in more than 100 years – it was a huge disappointment to a lot of people. That included Gail Beyer, who’s spent most of her life being part of the event either as a participant or a spectator and who became the coordinator of the celebration four years ago. Camp Clarke Days is taking place again this June, and Beyer couldn’t be happier, for she says it’s a special and meaningful event that ‘honors Bridgeport and its wonderful history and puts a smile on so many people’s faces.’

BRIDGEPORT – It’s pretty evident that there’s a lot of residents in Bridgeport who are passionate about their small town. Gail Beyer is certainly one of them.

“I truly believe in and love Bridgeport,” she said.

Because of that, she’s been doing what she can over the years to help make the schools and the community the best they can be.

Beyer, who graduated from Bridgeport High School in 1989, is finishing up her 18th year as the secretary for Bridgeport Public Schools. And outside of her full-time job, she does lots of volunteering, including coordinating the TeamMates Mentoring Program in Bridgeport. She’s also in her 10th year as a member of the Bridgeport Lions Club.

“It all keeps me pretty busy,” she said with a laugh. “Sometimes my husband will ask me, ‘So, what are you doing today?’”
