Lauri Matisse of Scottsbluff knew at an early age she wanted to be a writer. She’s pursued her dream, and she’s now written a number of inspirational and children’s books that have been published. She plans to continue writing books because she not only loves to be creative with her writing, but she also loves trying to inspire and bring joy to other people with the words she writes.

SCOTTSBLUFF – When Lauri (Slater) Matisse thinks back to her childhood, she remembers always having a pencil and paper nearby.
Writing, she said, was always one of her favorite things to do.
“I loved to put my thoughts down on paper,” said Matisse, who was born in Los Angeles but moved to Scottsbluff with her family when she was 6. “I kept a diary, and I journaled a lot, too. I also wrote a lot of poems.”
When Matisse was about 10, she recalls gazing at an alfalfa field that was located behind her family’s house. A vision popped into her head.
“It was a picture of me becoming a writer [for a career],” she said. “I remember thinking, ‘I’m going to write about God.’ I pictured thousands of people who were going to read my book. It was a cool vision.”
