Perry Brening of Bluffs Middle School has been named TC & More’s Teacher of the Week.
Brening has been at BMS for 15 years, and he currently teaches students in the areas of vocal music, guitar classes, and general music.
“I introduce them to Elvis, the Beatles and the Eagles,” he said. “We try and develop our own “School of Rock” multiple times each year. You could say I’m the “Jack Black” of BMS. I love teaching today’s youth all the while trying to impress upon them the power of music and the importance of living a life of integrity.”
The person who nominated Brening said, “He’s always positive and always knows how to put a smile on someone’s face. He’s a great teacher, but he goes above and beyond just teaching music. He takes time to share with his students some of the life experiences he’s had and some of the life lessons he’s learned. He has empathy for others and is a very genuine and kind person.”
Brening graduated from Gering High School in 1980. He then attended Chadron State College for his undergrad studies. He earned a master’s degree from Lesley University in Cambridge, Massachusetts. He began his teaching career in 1986 at Bayard.
