WINTER SPORTS SPECIAL EDITION: Alliance senior ‘glad I didn’t give up’

As a C team basketball player in middle school, Nic Waldron of Alliance had doubts about his ability to ever contribute at the varsity level in high school. However, he stuck with the game he loves and continued to work hard, and he’s certainly glad he did because the Alliance High School senior is now in his second year as a starter and leader on the Bulldogs’ varsity basketball team.

ALLIANCE – As much as Nic Waldron enjoyed playing basketball in middle school, he never thought he would go very far in the sport in high school. In fact, as a C team player in eighth grade, he wondered if his basketball career would be over even before he entered high school.

“I was maybe 5-foot-11 and a little on the chubby side, and I wasn’t that good,” said Waldon, who’s now a senior at Alliance High School. “I wanted to keep playing basketball, but at that point, I didn’t think I would be good enough to play high school basketball. I was frustrated.”
