SCOTTSBLUFF – Loretta Roth, of Scottsbluff, is in her 33rd year of attending Zion Evangelical Church in Scottsbluff. Also, she’s in her 23rd year of leading a women’s Bible study group. She used to help in the kitchen, too, at Zion, including helping to service funerals. Loretta and her husband, Don, have been married for 66 years. They were married at the Zion church. They have three children: Gregory, who lives in Vacaville, Calif.; Donna Weigel, who lives in Bismarck, North Dakota; and Rebecca Maltby, who lives in Topeka, Kansas. Loretta, 85, was born south of Melbeta in a log cabin house, and she graduated from Minatare High School in 1954. She spent 34 years of her life as a teacher, including nine years at Community Christian School in Scottsbluff. She retired from teaching in 1998.

Q: How much have you enjoyed attending Zion Evangelical Church?

ROTH: “I’ve really enjoyed the people’s fellowship and the pastor’s messages, which are always very inspiring.”

Q: How many years have you been a Christian?

ROTH: “I accepted the Lord in November 1965. I was attending Zion church at the time, and we had different evangelistic speakers come in. One of them was Harold Goldman, who spoke the night I received the Lord. Within that same week, four of my very dear Christian friends also accepted the Lord. Before that, I was unchurched. I was seeking peace in the world, so that led me to see that Jesus was my peace. After that, my husband and I were involved in Sunday school teaching, the youth group, and a young adults group that met on Sunday nights. That was growth for me. Then we were led to go to Papua New Guinea as missionary teachers. Upon returning, we became involved in child evangelism fellowship, and we were on the committee for child evangelism for probably 20 years. I did teacher’s training and was involved in Good News Clubs.”
