Mitchell Care Center collecting money, supplies to help nursing home residents in eastern Nebraska who have been affected by flooding in recent weeks; Gering girl also chipping in by organizing a toy drive

MITCHELL – One night not too long ago, Stephanie Hahn was having trouble sleeping. She had been thinking about all the devastation that had been occurring in eastern Nebraska because of the flooding, and she couldn’t get it out of her mind.
“I kept thinking about how horrible that situation would be to go through,” she said.
Rather than lie awake that night just thinking about the devastation, she began thinking about what she could do to help. Since she’s the administrator for the Mitchell Care Center, she started brainstorming ways that her care center could help another care center in eastern Nebraska.
“I knew some of the nursing homes back east needed help because my sister, who’s also an administrator at a nursing home [in Clarkson], had actually received about eight residents from another nursing home that had been evacuated,” Hahn said. “I figured there had to be a way we could help them.”
