SCOTTSBLUFF – Ralph Waldo Emerson said, “Life is a journey, not a destination,” and Michele Denton, the Executive Director for the West Nebraska Arts Center (WNAC) in Scottsbluff, has taken it to heart.

Denton always knew she wanted to be an artist when she grew up, or rather, that she already was an artist. But instead of picking one direct route into making art a career, she allowed life to take her on its journey.

“I grew up on a farm on the Platte River,” said Denton. “My mom passed away when I was 6 years old and my dad farmed all day, so I would wander around the entire farm, alone. It was just me and nature. I started to draw birds, flowers, fish, anything I saw.”
