FEATURE: After ‘wake-up calls,’ Scottsbluff man says he feels like a different person now

Dale Blehm of Scottsbluff says he received ‘a wake-up call’ four years ago when he survived emergency surgery to remove a blood clot in his head. He believes that was actually the second time his life was saved, for the first time came 11 years ago when doctors used lap-band surgery to drop his weight from 422 pounds to 227. Going through those experiences, he said, has changed him a lot, for he’s now a happier and more easy-going and grateful person.

SCOTTSBLUFF – Dale Blehm was serving food in his concession stand trailer one afternoon in October 2017 when his leg suddenly started bouncing up and down.

“It was really weird,” he said. “I couldn’t control it.”

His leg stopped shaking after a couple minutes, but then it happened again that evening, when he and his family went to Prime Cut to have dinner. His wife, Susan, and daughter, Jennifer, wanted Dale to go to the hospital to get checked.

“I was stubborn, though, and said I didn’t need to go,” Dale said. “I told them it was just something weird that probably wouldn’t happen again. I told them I would be fine.”
