SCOTTSBLUFF – It’s apparent the newly named queen of the annual Cinco de Mayo celebration loves not only her Mexican culture but also the traditional dancing and music that characterizes it.
In early May, 18-year-old Jennifer Camargo was crowned queen of the popular event held in Scottsbluff. That only seems fitting since both of her parents are Hispanic and came from Mexico, and she has a passion for sharing her heritage through Mexican folk dancing.
“Cinco de Mayo is a big day in Mexico because we celebrate Mexico’s victory over the Second French Empire at the battle of Puebla in 1862. In Scottsbluff we have a parade with horses and Mexico flags that show our heritage,” she said, adding that the day’s events include customary Mexican games, music, food, and dancing.
