GERING – When Kelli Johnson thinks back to her childhood, she feels grateful that she was always surrounded by family – not just her immediate family but also her military family.

Kelli, who spent the first 15 years of her life growing up in Torrington before moving to Gering, said she spent countless hours at Camp Guernsey, where her mom, Liz Johnson, worked as a full-time active duty member of the Wyoming Army National Guard.

“The setting I was raised in was a lot of fun,” Kelli said. “It was so cool being on base. The camaraderie that my mom had with her friends was nice. Everyone treats you like family there. For me, it was like being part of a big family.”
