Vanessa Hiegel never pictured herself running her own restaurant, especially having four young children. However, an opportunity came up last year for her to open a restaurant in Morrill, and her new business, called Mama’s Kitchen, started in mid-December. The Torrington native said she’s had fun making and delivering breakfast and lunch items for people in the area, and she looks forward to building on the success she’s had so far.

MORRILL – When Vanessa Hiegel’s husband asked her last year if she would be interested in opening a restaurant that serves breakfast and lunch in Morrill, she quickly gave him an “Are you kidding me?” type of look.
“I thought, ‘Who in their right mind – with four little kids – is going to get up in the middle of the night and start making burritos?’” Vanessa said with a laugh. “He said he figured it would give me a nice break from the kids. I said, ‘You’re crazy.’”
