Bridgeport High School senior Payton Alexander doesn’t receive a lot of playing time during the Bulldogs’ varsity volleyball matches. But she doesn’t sulk or complain about it, for she enjoys just being part of the team and supporting her teammates every chance she gets.

BRIDGEPORT – Sometimes Bridgeport High School’s Payton Alexander will check into a volleyball match to serve. Sometimes she’ll check in to play an outside hitter position.
Most of the time during matches, though, Alexander will be on the bench, watching and cheering for her teammates. It’s not the role Alexander – or any other senior, for that matter – dreams about.
But Alexander doesn’t sulk or complain about it. She just cheers – loudly and with a smile.
“I know I’m not one of the better volleyball players on our team, so I understand that’s why I don’t get a lot of playing time,” she said. “But I still enjoy being part of the team, and I love supporting my teammates.”
Alexander loves volleyball. She started playing the game when she was in seventh grade, and she grew to love the sport even more her eighth-grade year.
She decided not to play volleyball her freshman year so she could focus more time on some other activities that she enjoys. However, she missed playing volleyball, so she re-joined the program her sophomore year, and she’s been playing volleyball ever since.
“I love being around the coaches and the other players,” she said. “Volleyball is a really fun sport.”
