SCOTTSBLUFF – Emzie Coop, a senior at Scottsbluff High School, has been attending WestWay Christian Church in Scottsbluff since she was born. She recently became the leader for her youth group’s band, and she’s also involved in the praise band during Sunday services. She’s also helped with the church nursery. Coop sings, and she’s been playing the piano for about seven years. Her parents are Shane Coop, who passed away last year, and Maranda Coop. Emzie has one sibling, Milo, who’s a sophomore at Scottsbluff High School. Emzie is a standout at school as she holds a 4.0 GPA.

Q: How much have you enjoyed attending WestWay Christian Church?

COOP: “I’ve really enjoyed it. My family has gone there for a while. I’ve basically grown up in that church. I know a lot of people there, and I’ve developed a close relationship with many of them. It’s a good church body.”

Q: How has going to church made an impact on your life?

COOP: “It’s definitely influenced a lot of my values and beliefs. A lot of my mindset is based on being kind to others and knowing that whatever I do, I’m doing it not for myself but for God. It’s shaped how I live my life.”

Q: Tell me a little about your church youth group.

COOP: “I go to youth group every Wednesday night. I’ve known a lot of the kids there for quite awhile. We’re a pretty close-knit group. I really enjoy it. Right now, we’re going through a series called ‘Rooted.’ We start off with music, and then we split into small groups to discuss that week’s readings. Our youth group tries to set up a good foundation for Christ in our lives. We’re focused on scripture, discussions, and a lot of journaling, too.”
