The Friends of the Lied Scottsbluff Public Library will host its annual book sale October 9, 10 and 11 at the Hampton Inn in Scottsbluff. Friday evening, October 9, will be a Friends members-only sale from 4:00-6:00 p.m.
This “early-bird” sale is for members of the Friends of the Library. Anyone who is not already a member can join at the door and shop this early sale.
The sale will be open to the public from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 10 and 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 11. Sunday is the bag sale; shoppers will pay just $2 for all the books they can stuff in a grocery-size bag. Shoppers are encouraged to bring their own bags or reusable shopping bags.
Books offered at the sale include those weeded from the library collection as well as those
donated by community members. In addition to books, there are also DVDs, audio books, records, puzzles, and more. Prices at the sale range from 50 cents to $2. Proceeds from the sale are mainly used to support the library’s children’s summer reading and fall adult reading programs. Other uses are to support library programming and to fund various library projects.
Friends of the Lied Scottsbluff Public Library was founded in 2002 to focus public attention on the library, stimulate use of the library’s resources and services, receive and encourage gifts in support of the library’s objectives, and to support and cooperate with the library in encouraging the community to use the library and its services.
The week of October 18-24 is the annual celebration of National Friends of Libraries Week. National Friends of Libraries Week is coordinated by United for Libraries, a division of the American Library Association. United for Libraries supports those who govern, promote, advocate, and fundraise for libraries, and brings together library trustees, advocates, friends, and foundations into a partnership that creates a powerful force for libraries in the 21st century.
