GERING – Emma Schneider, a senior at Gering High School, is Nspire Today!’s Female Student

of the Month for March. She’s performed well academically and is involved in a number of

activities, including FFA, Leo Club, student council, HOSA, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Key

Club, cross country, and track and field. In FFA, she’ll be attending the state competition for

floriculture. She’s also earned multiple ribbons for the vet science CDE competition. In Leo

Club, she’s the secretary, and she recently was awarded a $750 scholarship by the

Scottsbluff/Gering Lions Club. In student council, she’s served as the vice president each of the

last four years. Outside of school, she helps in the nursery at Northfield Church in Gering, and

she has four different jobs: working as a server at Perkins Restaurant, working as a vet

assistant at Pioneer Animal Clinic; dog sitting; and babysitting. After graduating from high

school, she plans to join the Army National Guard. She also plans to start attending the

University of Nebraska at Lincoln the second semester of college after her military training to

study animal science. Her parents are Shauna and Rocky Schneider.

Q: How pleased are you with the way your high school career has gone academically?

EMMA: “I’m pretty pleased with how I’ve done academically. School is hard for me since I don’t

get concepts as easily as most people, so it takes me longer to learn things. Because of that,

I’ve had to devote extra time to studying things online so I can understand the concepts better.

I’m also not the best test taker, but I always try my best to study as much as I can, and I feel it’s

really paid off.”

Q: What do you feel has been your greatest achievement academically in high school up to this point?

EMMA: “I would say it’s my report cards from the last two years. During my freshman and

sophomore years, I struggled a bit, but last year and this year I’ve pushed myself extra hard, and it’s helped me get the good grades I always hoped for.”
