GERING – Scotts Bluff County native Reginald (Reg) Preston is no stranger to the world of wheat farming. As a small child, he grew up helping on his family’s wheat farm driving tractors, trucks and combines, oftentimes working alongside his dad, Don, and his grandfather Bob, who played a pivotal role in adopting early conservation tillage practices.
Upon graduating high school, Reg was encouraged by his mom and dad to get out on his own and experience the world a little bit before returning to the farm. This nudge took him to Iowa to study ag engineering at Iowa State University where he obtained a Bachelors of Science degree.
“I grew up south of Lyman on the family farm,” shared Reg. “I graduated from Gering High School here in the middle of Scotts Bluff County and shortly after graduation, I got accepted into a Navy Reserve Officer Training Corps ‘ROTC’ scholarship program at Iowa State University.”
