‘It uplifted everyone’s spirits immensely’

After being on lockdown for weeks due to COVID-19, the staff at NRC’s The Care Center wanted to do something special for its residents and their families. So, they organized an outdoor parade that served as a fun, emotional, and memorable moment for both the residents and their families.

SCOTTSBLUFF – Since the start of the COVID-19 outbreak, the staff at Northfield Retirement Communities’ The Care Center in Scottsbluff has been making sure residents there continue to exercise and stay safe. The staff has also been doing everything it can to make sure residents’ smile often and have opportunities to do fun activities during the week.

Unfortunately, one thing the residents haven’t been able to do in the last few months is see their families in person. The reason is that The Care Center, along with many other care centers across the nation, has been on lockdown to help keep residents safe during the pandemic.

On Sunday, May 17, however, most of The Care Center’s residents and their families had a chance to take part in a fun, memorable, and much-needed moment together while still staying safe. The Care Center’s staff organized a parade just outside The Care Center in which families were able to slowly drive by while talking, waving and blowing kisses to their loved ones, who sat along the side of the road.

Maureen Galen, director of marketing for NRC, couldn’t help but get a little emotional herself as she watched families and their loved ones at The Center Center enjoy a special moment together.

“I think it uplifted everyone’s spirits immensely,” Galen said. “I think it meant a lot to the families and their loved ones at The Care Center – to be able to see each other and to talk to each other (while still maintaining social distancing] on a beautiful day.”
