ALLIANCE – Kenna Montes, a senior at Alliance High School, is Nspire Today!’s Female Athlete of the Month for September. She’s a superb volleyball player and heads into her third season as a starting middle blocker. Last year she received all-conference and honorable mention all-state honors. She’s also performed well in track and field, including qualifying for state her sophomore year in the 4×400 relay. She competes in the 100, 200, 400 and relays. She earned multiple medals in most meets her junior season. In addition to her athletic success, Montes is a standout in the classroom, holding a 4.0 GPA and earning a spot in National Honor Society. Other school activities she’s involved in are FBLA and the Hope Squad, which she said focuses on suicide prevention at the school. In FBLA, Morales’ publication and design team placed first at state last year, allowing them to compete in the national competition this summer in Chicago. Outside of school, Montes works at the Alliance Theatre and McDonald’s. After high school, she plans to attend WNCC in Scottsbluff, where she’ll begin pursuing a degree to become a social worker. Her parents are Tiffany and Susano Montes.

Q: Describe how your high school athletic career has gone up to this point.

MONTES: “I feel like I’ve been very successful. I’ve worked very hard to get to where I’m at. I’ve really enjoyed my sports career, especially since I’ve had great teammates. The chemistry on our teams has been great.”
