BRIDGEPORT – Lucas Smith, a senior at Bridgeport High School, is Nspire Today!’s Male Student of the Month for April. He has a 3.857 GPA and is involved in National Honor Society. He scored a 32 on the ACT. At school, he’s involved in band (tuba), choir, Quiz Bowl, and speech, and he’s in his first year on the Bulldogs’ golf team. In band, he’s been chosen for the Oregon Trail Honor Band, the High Plains Honor Band, and the WTC Honor Band. In choir, he’s been selected for the High Plains Honor Choir, the Doane University Vocal Festival, and the SPVA Honor Choir. In speech, he’s qualified for state three of the last four years, and he got fifth place in OID at this year’s state competition. Outside of school, he and his family volunteer at Bridgeport’s food pantry, and they also help deliver Meals on Wheels. After graduating from high school, Smith plans to attend Doane University, where he’s earned scholarships for band, choir, and academics. He wants to major in criminal justice and minor in psychology, and for a career, he wants to be a police officer. His parents are Billie and Parker Smith.
Q: How has your senior year of school been going?
SMITH: “It’s been flying by, but overall, it’s been going pretty well.”
