Sidney High School senior Alecca Campbell, who’s one of the top volleyball and basketball players in the region, has suffered three knee injuries in high school, including an ACL tear in January that ended her senior basketball season and career. But while Campbell was heartbroken not to be able to finish her last high school basketball season, she said she’s grateful for all the opportunities she did have to play and make lots of fun memories with her teammates.

SIDNEY – Only a couple minutes into Sidney’s basketball game at Ogallala on Jan. 14, senior Alecca Campbell dribbled quickly into the lane before planting her feet for a jump stop, something she had countless times before.
As soon as she landed on her feet, however, she heard a “pop,” and her right gave out, causing her to tumble hard to the gym floor.
As her teammates and coaches rushed over to help, Campbell grasped her right knee tightly while wincing in pain. A wave of emotions then rushed over her, for she feared her senior basketball season – and her basketball career altogether – might be over.
“I just started screaming, ‘Not again. Please, not again,’” she said. “I didn’t want to go through another knee injury.”
