MORRILL – Ashwin Pittman, a senior at Morrill High School, is Nspire Today!’s Male Student of the Month for February. He’s been on the A/B Honor Roll throughout high school, and he’s participated in the Scholastics competition the last two years. He earned a second-place finish in business management decision-making this year. He’s involved in football, basketball, and track and field. In football, he was a starter last fall. He played multiple positions, including receiver, safety, kicker, and punter. In basketball, he’s in his third year as a starter. He’s a post/forward. In track and field, he’s competed in the high jump and triple jump. Last year at districts, he placed third in the high jump. Outside of school, he works at Taco Town. After high school, he’s planning to go to college. He hasn’t decided yet what he’ll major in.  His parents are Andy and Alisa Pittman.

Q: How excited are you about what you’ve achieved academically so far in high school?

PITTMAN: “I feel like I’ve done pretty well. I rank fourth in my class (GPA-wise), I’ve been on the Honor Roll each year, and I’ve done pretty well at Scholastics. So, I’m happy with how I’ve done.”

Q: How pleased were you to get second place in the Scholastics competition?

PITTMAN: “It was pretty nice, especially since I didn’t think I was going to do too well. But I’m in a personal finance class this year, so I think that helped a lot.”

Q: What was it like to experience the Scholastics competition?

PITTMAN: “It was nice and relaxed, actually. There’s four test times, but when you’re not taking a test, you can just hang out and do whatever you want. They also have some games set up.”

Q: Talk about why it’s so important to you to excel academically.

PITTMAN: “It’s been very important to me because I know I can get a lot of scholarship money and get looked at by more colleges if I do really well in school.”
