OBITUARY: Erlinda Salazar (Villanueva)

Erlinda Salazar (Villanueva), 74, passed away on Wednesday, January 6, 2021 at South Lake Hospital in Clermont, FL.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, February 8, 2021 at 10am at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Scottsbluff, NE followed by Interment at Fairview Cemetery. A vigil service will be held Sunday, February 7 at 6pm at the church.  Father Neal Nollette will be officiating both services.  Please note, face masks and proper social distancing will be REQUIRED.  Memorials may be given to the Scottsbluff Schools Foundation.  Online condolences may be left at www.dugankramer.com

Erlinda was born in Kingsville, TX on December 15, 1946 to Macario and Dolores (Garcia) Villanueva. She graduated from Torrington High School with the class of 1965. She received her Bachelor of Arts in Education from the University of Wyoming in 1969. She married Frank Salazar on June 21, 1969, in Torrington, WY. 

She had a memorable teaching career with the Scottsbluff Public School District and retired after thirty-one (31) years. She dedicated her life to being an educator and took great pride in working for Roosevelt Elementary School.  She earned numerous Awards and Accolades during her teaching years. She also taught religious education classes and was an active member and volunteered for many years at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Scottsbluff, NE. After living in Denver and then Lincoln for a few years, she moved to Florida in 2015 to continue her life with her daughters and to be closer to her grandkids. She volunteered within the schools, the community, Disney World and spent as much time with her family as possible. Her family was the most important thing in her life.

Erlinda is survived by her daughters, Sandra Vela and Michelle Salazar, son-in-law, Juan Vela; grandchildren, Alisa and her husband Alex Baty, Liliana and Kristina Vela, Ricky and Maliyah Pryor-Salazar, all of Clermont, FL; sisters, Mary Esther (Domingo) Aguallo of Torrington, WY, Herminia Aguallo of Denver, CO, Mary Socorro Salazar of Clermont, FL, Consuelo Hinojosa of Kingsville, TX and numerous nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Frank; siblings, Macario Villanueva Jr, Peter Villanueva, Sulema Tijerina, Estella Sandoval, Esperanza Rodriguez.
