It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Jim D. Parker, of Scottsbluff, Nebraska on Wednesday, March 2, 2022, after reaching the age of 87 years old. Services will be held on Friday, March 11, 2022, at 10:00 am, at First Christian Church in Scottsbluff, Nebraska with Reverend Nona Hodder and Reverend George Kilmer officiating. Burial will be at Mitchell City Cemetery in Mitchell, Nebraska.
Jim was born on July 23, 1934, in Mitchell, Nebraska, to Dale J. Parker and Esther M. Frank-Parker. He received his early education at Lake Alice and Scottsbluff schools, graduating from Scottsbluff High School. Jim married the love of his life, Muriel B. Halstead, on September 20, 1953, in Scottsbluff, Nebraska where they made their home. Two years later they welcomed their son and greatest joy, Scott.
Jim worked 16 years at Z & W Furniture store and worked over 50 years as a Lincoln National Life Insurance Agent, still serving his clients to the time of his death.
Jim was a valued member of the community and was actively involved as a volunteer in many different organizations including the Boy Scouts Troop 13 and the Long Peaks Council, 23 Club Baseball, Booster Club Member of the Nebraska Western and Western Nebraska Jr. College, Scottsbluff Gering Chamber of Commerce Ambassadors, Life Underwriters, United Way, and was a Deacon at the First Christian Church. Jim’s hobbies included working in his yard, supporting Scottsbluff athletics, Western Nebraska athletics, watching the Cornhuskers, and spending time with his wife, his son, and his family.
Jim will be fondly remembered by family and friends as a loving father, grandpa, and neighbor. He was a champion fixer of all things, a humorist that could make anyone laugh, and a proud man of God. His joyous presence will be missed by all.
He is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Muriel Parker of Scottsbluff; son, Scott Parker and wife Dianne; granddaughters, Brooke Cordova and husband Jerry, Sasha Parker and great-grandchildren, Nevan, Ava, and Olivia Cordova all of Portales, NM; sister, Jean Blackburn of Scottsbluff; brother, Darrell Parker of Scottsbluff; and sister, JoAnne Cookston and husband Scotty of Montesano, Washington.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents Dale and Esther Parker.
