Joseph Gerald McAninch, 80, of Scottsbluff

Joseph Gerald McAninch, 80, of Scottsbluff, Nebraska, died Saturday, July 30, 2022, at Regional West Medical Center in Scottsbluff. A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, August 5, 2022, at Mitchell City Cemetery with Pastor Randy Brotzman officiating. The Gering American Legion Post 36 Honor Guard will provide military funeral honors.  The service will be livestreamed and recorded to Joe’s obituary page viewable at www.reverencefuneralparlor.com. Memorials may be made to the Festival of Hope.

Joe was born June 24, 1942, in Aitkin, Minnesota. He married Carole Prather in 1974.  Joe was a loving, compassionate caregiver, and husband to Carole. They made their home in Woodburn, Oregon until moving to Scottsbluff in 2008 to be near Joe’s daughter, Shelly.  Unfortunately, Carole passed shortly after their arrival to Scottsbluff.

Joe worked on and built mobile homes. He had various other jobs as well over his lifetime. His many hobbies included woodworking, puzzles, yardwork, painting, cooking, camping, and fishing.  He and Carole collected many different things together also.

He loved chihuahuas.  Joe had a major affinity for cigars and went to great lengths to get his next cigar. He was especially close to his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Joe suffered from cancer the past few years.

Survivors include his daughter, Shelly (Bill) Wilson of Scottsbluff; grandchildren, Amanda Wilson, Aaron Wilson, and Abbigale (Shawn Swank) Wilson all of Scottsbluff; great grandchildren, Kooper Wilson, Keanny Lopez, Nathiiah Lopez, Naddon Wilson, Jasmine Shelby, Angel Shelby, Malikki Wilson, Moneek Wilson, and Miccah Wilson; stepson, Charles Chatham of Arizona; and a special grandson, who always called him, “Grandpa Joe”, Chapman Hascall, of Torrington, Wyoming.

Joe was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Carole; and great granddaughter, Kerra Marie Wilson.
