Joy was born March 4, 1954 in Granite Falls, Minnesota to Marvin and Donna (Dunsmore) Nere. Joy married Darrell Keenan. She has one daughter Wendy Nere, one step-son Harley Keenan; three grandchildren: Cecilia Hill, Kristal Ray Keenan, and Austin Kane Keenan; and one-great-grandson: Cortez Salazar.
Joy was preceded in death by her brother Terry Nere, sister Vicki Lase, and mother Donna Robertson.
