Randell A. Welsch, 72, of Gering, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 18th, 2022, at Regional West Medical Center in Scottsbluff with his daughters by his side. A Celebration of Life will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, January 29, 2022 at Reverence Funeral Parlor in Scottsbluff. Cremation has taken place in accordance with his wishes. The service will be livestreamed and recorded to Randell’s obituary page viewable at www.reverencefuneralparlor.com. Memorials may be made in care of the family and will be designated at a later date.
Randy was born on August 7th, 1949 in Scottsbluff, Nebraska to Alex and Elsie (Marker) Welsch. He was raised on the family farm just east of the regional airport in Scottsbluff.
Aside from being a farmer, Randy was a carpenter, small business owner, and eventually retired as an engineer with the Union Pacific Railroad. He enjoyed an array of sports throughout his life such as baseball, horseshoes, billiards, golf, and bowling.
Randy grew up and lived in the panhandle much of his life, making many great friends along the way. He was well-known for his culinary endeavors including his famous recipes for enchiladas, pork chili, salsa, and barbeque sauce. Randy’s personality was larger than life and he had a great big heart to match it. He was a loving father and papa and enjoyed time spent with his family and friends.
He is survived by his daughters and their significant others, Cassandra (Daniel) Nickens of Mitchell and Alexi (Murphy Young) Welsch of Gering; grandchildren, Daniel Nickens, Jr., Sydney Nickens, and Gryffin Young; sister, Virginia Johannes of Greeley, CO; godmother, Emma Marker of Minatare; and many extended family members.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Al Jon.
