SCOTTSBLUFF – Emily Krzyzanowski, a sophomore on Scottsbluff High School’s golf team, is this week’s Nspire Today! Female Athlete of the Week, sponsored by Kristy Culek Agency, LLC-American Family Insurance. Krzyzanowski has placed in the top four in all of her golf tournaments so far this season, including one first-place finish and two runner-up finishes. Her best score this season is a 74. Last season, she placed first at districts and fifth in the Class B state tournament. Her parents are Kevin and Susan Krzyzanowski.
Q: How pleased are you with how you’ve played so far this season?
KRZYZANOWSKI: “I’ve been pleased, but I know I can do a lot better.”
Q: What were your goals coming into this season?
KRZYZANOWSKI: “I was hoping to shoot in the 70s consistently, which has been working out pretty well.”
Q: How much progress do you feel you’ve made since last season?
KRZYZANOWSKI: “I think I’ve made a lot of progress. I’ve been shooting lower scores.”
Q: Do you feel like you’re playing with more confidence and more relaxed this season?
KRZYZANOWSKI: “Yes, definitely. I feel like I’m more used to it, so I’m more relaxed when I’m playing. That’s definitely helped.”
Q: What are you hoping to achieve at this year’s district and state tournaments?
KRZYZANOWSKI: “I hope to win districts again, and I hope to place in the top three at state.”
Q: How have things been going for your team?
KRZYZANOWSKI: “We’ve been doing really good. We’ve been playing better than we did last year.”
Q: What are the team’s goals for the rest of this season?
KRZYZANOWSKI: “As a team, we want to try to win districts and state.”
Q: Are you involved in any other sports?
KRZYZANOWSKI: “No. Golf has always been the sport I’ve focused on.”
Q: How many years have you been golfing?
KRZYZANOWSKI: “Since I was really little – like 4 or 5.”
Q: What’s helped you develop into the kind of golfer you are today?
KRZYZANOWSKI: “Lots of practice. I’m always on the golf course, trying to improve every day.”
Q: How did your summer go? Did you compete in quite a few tournaments?
KRZYZANOWSKI: “Yes, I played quite a bit. I traveled to eastern Nebraska, and I did some of the Junior Tour tournaments.”
Q: Are there any golfers that you’ve followed more than others?
KRZYZANOWSKI: “Yes, my brother [Erik] and sister [Kaitlyn]. I look up to them because they were so good [in high school]. I’ve watched them my whole life, and they’ve helped me a lot with my game.”
Q: Do you watch a lot of golf on TV?
KRZYZANOWSKI: “Once in awhile.”
Q: Do you have a favorite professional player?
KRZYZANOWSKI: “No, I don’t.”
Q: What other activities are you involved in at school?
KRZYZANOWSKI: “I’m involved in HOSA, student senate, and ROTC.”
Q: Outside of your school activities, what do you like to do for fun?
KRZYZANOWSKI: “I like to read a lot.”
Q: Are you reading a book right now?
KRZYZANOWSKI: “Yes. It’s called ‘All the Light We Cannot See.”
Q: What is that book about?
KRZYZANOWSKI: “It’s set in the World War II era. It switches back and forth between the two main characters, and it talks about their life throughout the war.”
Q: So are you really interested in history?
KRZYZANOWSKI: “Yes, I am.”
Q: What is your favorite class this year?
KRZYZANOWSKI: “My history class.”
Q: During your educational career so far, which teacher has made the biggest influence on you?
KRZYZANOWSKI: “Probably [Zach] Mr. Boness. He taught a history class when I was in seventh grade [at BMS].”
Q: Name one person who you think shows a lot of kindness at Scottsbluff High School.
KRZYZANOWSKI: “Halle Shaddick. She’s a junior. She has a very welcoming attitude, and she tries to keep everyone involved. She always super positive, and she’s always trying to help everyone.”
Q: How much have you enjoyed growing up in Scottsbluff?
KRZYZANOWSKI: “I’ve enjoyed it. I like how it’s not too big, but it’s not too small, either.”
Q: What is your favorite restaurant in the Scottsbluff area?
KRZYZANOWSKI: “Ole.”
Q: What do you like to order there?
KRZYZANOWSKI: “I usually order a bean burrito.”
Q: Favorite music artist?
KRZYZANOWSKI: “Carrie Underwood.”
Q: Favorite TV show?
KRZYZANOWSKI: “Reign.”
Q: Name one person who you feel is a big difference-maker in your community.
KRZYZANOWSKI: “Peyton Kriewald. She’s a sophomore. She helps a lot in the community. She does a lot of volunteering through different organizations.”
Q: Have you thought about what you would like to do for a career?
KRZYZANOWSKI: “I want to be a doctor.”
