FEATURE: ‘An act of love’

After the American Legion Post No. 9 in Hemingford was closed for a year and a half, longtime Hemingford resident Margaret Hansen took on the task of helping to re-open it, and she also agreed to once again serve as the manager of the Supper Club. Although the 66-year-old Hansen stays busy seven days a week running the Legion – as a volunteer – she’s happy to do it because she loves supporting veterans, and she loves doing what she can ‘to help our small community stay alive.’

HEMINGFORD – During the 45 years that Margaret Hansen has lived in Hemingford, she’s always had a deep appreciation for the American Legion Post No. 9.

She loves that it supports veterans and their families, and she also loves that it’s a big part of the community, where citizens – whether they’re Legion members or not – can enjoy a tasty meal, drinks, entertainment sometimes, and friendly conversations every week throughout the year.

“It’s kind of the center hub of town,” said Hansen, who’s been an Auxiliary member of the American Legion for about 40 years.
