Showing kindness with copiers

Gene and Kathleen Batt, who have owned Western Plains Business Solutions in Scottsbluff for more than 20 years, have enjoyed giving back to the community in various ways over the years. One way they’ve done that is by donating a whopping 280 copiers to local churches and other non-profit groups.

SCOTTSBLUFF – When Western Plains Business Solutions became an agent for Xerox in 1998, owners Gene and Kathleen Batt weren’t planning to donate a bunch of copiers over the years to churches and other non-profit organizations in the area.

It wasn’t long after becoming a Xerox franchise, however, that the kind-hearted Batts found themselves giving away their first copier – a machine valued at that time at about $1,000 – to the DOVES organization in Gering.

“We had become familiar with that organization, and when they started looking for a copier, we decided to help them,” Batt said. “We were happy to help that organization.”

That wasn’t the only copier the Batts ended up donating. In fact, since 1998, Western Plains Business Solutions has donated a whopping 280 copy machines – valued at about a half million dollars – to various churches and non-profit groups in the area.

“It’s not something that we had thought about doing when we started selling copiers; we gave away that first one, and it’s just something that we’ve continued to do since then,” Gene said.
