The Bridgeport girls basketball team’s amazing season last year ended with a heartbreaking loss in the state championship game. With much of its firepower back this season, the Bulldogs are determined to get back to state and bring home the school’s first-ever girls state basketball championship trophy.

BRIDGEPORT – Without a doubt, the Bridgeport High School girls basketball team had a lot to celebrate last season.
Among their highlights was qualifying for the Nebraska state tournament for the second year in a row, and placing runner-up at state was also quite a thrill, especially since it was the program’s highest finish ever. They also ended the year with a school-record 26 wins.
But while the Bulldogs were certainly proud of what they achieved last season, there’s one thing that soured their mood a bit when the season was over – falling just shy of winning a state championship for the first time in school history. Hastings St. Cecilia rallied in the final minutes to secure a 40-38 victory in the C-2 final.
“Our kids definitely had pride in what they accomplished last season, and they haven’t lost sight of the fact that they had a great season, but there’s no question they were disappointed to come up just short of taking the gold,” said Dave Kuhlen, who’s in his fourth season as Bridgeport’s head coach.
