A lifetime of making people happy with music

Lucretia Green, who lives at the Mitchell Care Center and celebrates her 105th birthday on Oct. 6, enjoyed learning to play the piano at an early age and then spending most of her working career as an elementary music teacher in Gering and Scottsbluff. These days, she still enjoys bringing joy to other people with her talented piano-playing skills.

MITCHELL – Lucretia Green describes herself as a happy person who loves making other people happy.

“I think you’re responsible for the happiness of not only yourself but also of other people around you,” she said. “If you walk around being grumpy, there’s a chance you could make other people grumpy. I don’t want to be like that. I want to be happy, and I want to try to make other people feel happy.”

Green, a resident at the Mitchell Care Center who turns 105 years old on October 6, still does what she can to put a smile on other people’s faces. Her main method of brightening a room is playing the piano, something she’s been doing since she was a little girl growing up in Scottsbluff.
