SCOTTSBLUFF – It would have been understandable if Anna Kelley had felt a little nervous – maybe even really nervous – going into the Nebraska Class B girls state golf tournament in October in Gering.

Kelley, after all, knew it would be her final time competing at the state golf tournament. And the senior at Scottsbluff High School, who was among the favorites to capture a state title, also knew she would be facing some stiff competition, including Elkhorn North junior Julia Karmazin, the defending Class B state champion.

Kelley, however, was anything but nervous going into this year’s state event. Instead, she was relaxed, highly focused, and unfazed by everything that was at stake in the big-time environment.

“I was definitely ready,” she said. “Since I also play basketball and soccer, I feel like I thrive under pressure. I actually love situations where it’s tight. So, I knew I had it in me to perform well.”
