After graduating from Banner County High School in 2009, Mandy Murphy’s plan was to become a register nurse. But while that would have certainly fulfilled her desire to help people, she changed her mind and decided to get involved in law enforcement. The reason was because of her own positive experience of receiving help and comfort from members of law enforcement following her car crash on the interstate. Murphy is now in her 11th year of working in law enforcement, after working for departments in both Bridgeport and Mitchell, she’s now working as a deputy for the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office while also using her law enforcement skills as an inspector doing compliance checks for the FDA.

SIOUX COUNTY – As Mandy (Christian) Murphy neared the end of her time at Banner County High School, she thought more seriously about what she wanted to do for a career. Whatever she picked, she thought, she wanted it to be something where she could help other people.
“My parents [Dave and Kris Christian of Gering] have always put family first and have really went above and beyond to help family and friends, so I wanted to do that in my career,” she said. “I wanted to do something where I felt like I was making a difference for people.”
