FEATURE: Preserving history with a bit of love and a lot of elbow grease

Carrie Wiggins never set out to be a preservationist, but her love of her hometown has seen her spend nearly two decades keeping the history of Broadwater alive for future generations.

BROADWATER – Carrie Wiggins was devastated the day she learned the long hours she put into restoring the Lazy U Motel was destroyed in an accident. She thought about giving up, but her determination to make her town better keeps her going even in the tough times.

Wiggins and her family moved to Broadwater when she was in third grade.

“With no high school in Broadwater, we had to travel 15 miles to the next town for school,” she said. “Then, I went away for college to pursue an associate degree in Art for Visual Communications.”
