From specialty sodas and energy drinks to cookies, açaí bowls and sandwiches, LuAnne Hancock and her family have turned an idea borrowed from a western trend into a successful business called Dirty Pop, which operates locations in Alliance and Scottsbluff.

ALLIANCE/SCOTTSBLUFF — Sometimes a business begins with a detailed plan, years of experience and extensive knowledge of an industry. Dirty Pop began with a drink.

LuAnne Hancock had tried what is commonly known as a “dirty soda” — a traditional soft drink customized with flavored syrups, creams, fruit and other additions — and quickly became a fan.

Once she had one, she wanted another.

“I’d had a drink with Dr. Pepper, Vanilla and Coconut Cream, which is what I still drink, and I just loved it,” Hancock said.
