WNCC President Greg Dart’s path from Alaska to western Nebraska has been shaped by rural education, student opportunity and a belief that a community college can transform an entire region.

SCOTTSBLUFF — Long before Greg Dart became president of Western Nebraska Community College, he was a college student who wasn’t entirely sure where he was headed. In fact, his first academic plan lasted only a few weeks.
“I was a biology major for the better part of three weeks, and then I realized how much biology a biology major would have to take,” Dart said.
He quickly changed course, moving toward communication, journalism and public relations. But something even more important was happening during those early college years: Dart was discovering the power a small, rural college could have in a student’s life. Decades later, that experience remains at the heart of how he approaches his work at WNCC.
“Everything that I do is helping students to reach their goals,” Dart said.
