BRIDGEPORT – Sophomore Elizabeth Menke of Bridgeport is Nspire Today!’s Female Athlete of the Month for March. She has been surrounded by wrestling for as long as she can remember. Growing up in a wrestling family, she was introduced to the sport almost as soon as she could walk, often serving as a practice partner for her older siblings. What began as a family tradition has grown into a passion, and this season Menke reached a lifelong dream by capturing a state wrestling championship. For Menke, wrestling is more than wins and losses — it’s discipline, perseverance, and personal responsibility. The following is a question-and-answer conversation reflecting on her journey, her championship moment, and the lessons learned along the way.

Q: First of all, congratulations on winning the state title. What was going through your mind when the final match ended?
MENKE: “I was kind of worried because of [her opponent’s] injury. I felt bad that that’s how her season had to end. But overall, I was really shocked and really excited for myself. I’ve always wanted a state title, so it was exciting, but I still felt bad for my opponent.”
