KIMBALL / PINE BLUFFS – Sometimes helping someone through a crisis begins with something remarkably simple. Say hello. Ask how the person is doing. And then — really listen.

That philosophy is at the heart of Crisis Team 6, a free and confidential six-member volunteer organization founded by “Buzz” Canady that works with people experiencing everything from loneliness, grief and everyday stress to post-traumatic stress, suicidal thoughts and potentially life-threatening situations. Canady has a simple instruction for his team when they notice someone walking with his or her head down.

“Say hi,” he said. “And listen. How are you doing? And then listen.”

Not a casual question. Not a greeting offered automatically before moving on. Actually mean it. For Canady, that willingness to listen is personal.

The team members names are Buzz, Chris, Katherine, Dave, Lori, and Rebecka.

The team’s mission is simple and clear: “Our mission is to provide immediate, compassionate, free, and confidential crisis support that helps people regain stability, restore hope, and move forward. Through trained peer support, crisis intervention, and trusted community resources, we serve veterans, first responders, and anyone facing life’s toughest challenges.”
