‘I love helping people get their quality of life back’

Meghan Roper of Scottsbluff decided she wanted to be a physical therapist after going through therapy herself after tearing her ACL and meniscus while playing soccer in high school. She’s now in her sixth year of working at Monument Physical Therapy in Gering, including her third year as the clinic supervisor. She said she knows she picked the perfect career, for she loves helping her patients feel better.

SCOTTSBLUFF – Meghan Roper was playing defense during a high school summer league soccer game when she planted her foot to quickly change directions.

As she started to move the other way, however, her knee gave out, sending Roper to the turf in pain.

“I couldn’t get back up, so I knew it was bad,” said Roper, who at the time was entering her sophomore year at Lincoln Pius X High School in Lincoln.

Roper was taken to a hospital, where she learned she had torn her ACL and meniscus. She had knee surgery about a month later, and she then spent about the next eight months rehabilitating her knee.

“It was hard,” said Roper, who now lives in Scottsbluff with her husband, Cory, and their 2-year-old son, Noah, and 8-year-old son, Mason. “I remember having a lot of difficult days because of the pain and not having my full range of motion.”
