BAYARD – Zachary Araujo, a senior at Bayard High School, is Nspire Today!’s Male Student of the Month for December. He ranks first in his class with a 4.0 GPA, and he’s the president of National Honor Society. Other school activities he’s involved in include band, choir, show choir, FFA, Hope Squad, HOSA, MAC student advisory, One Act, E-sports, cross country, basketball, and track and field. He’s also part of the Academic Lead Team, the Leadership Lead Team, and Adrian’s Smith’s student advisory, and he’s a student board representative. In band, he plays the saxophone, and last year he was selected for the WTC and Oregon Trail honor bands. In choir, he was chosen to the WTC Honor Choir this year and last year. In FFA, he’s involved in natural resources speaking, floriculture, ag communications, and meats judging. He competed at state last year and earned a gold medal for his speech. He also placed third at state in ag communications, and that team placed third as well. In One Act, he was named to the district’s honorable mention list. In cross country, he was on varsity all four years of high school, and he competed at state his freshman and sophomore years. Outside of school, he attends Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church. He was recently confirmed. He also has two jobs – at The Vault and Al’s Market. After high school, he wants to attend Colorado State University and major in zoology. For a career, he would like to be an exotic veterinarian. His mother is Melissa Araujo.
Q: How excited are you about what you’ve accomplished so far in high school?
ARAUJO: “I’m very excited and proud of what I’ve done so far. I’m glad I’ve been able to make the most of the opportunities in front of me.”
