NSPIRING YOUTH: Encouraging a love for reading

Rylie Wright, a senior at Hemingford High School who was crowned Miss Scotts Bluff County’s Outstanding Teen this summer, said she was bullied as child, and what helped her cope with that situation was reading. She discovered a lot of other benefits to reading, and now as a pageant title holder, one of her main missions is to help young children also learn to love reading so they, too, will benefit from it in many ways.

HEMINGFORD – When Rylie Wright thinks back to her childhood, she can recall a lot of fun, memorable moments.

Unfortunately, she also remembers going through a very tough stretch around her fifth and sixth grade years when she was often bullied by some kids at the school she attended before her family moved to Hemingford.

“There was a group of boys who would go out of their way to find me every day and say mean things to me like I wasn’t even worthy of being alive,” said Wright, who’s now a senior at Hemingford High School. “They would tell me that I wasn’t worth taking up space in their school and that I shouldn’t be there. That really hurt, especially since I didn’t have many friends back then.”
