Gering High School senior Lucas Moravec has always had a busy schedule, and a big reason why is because of all the volunteer work he does throughout the year. During the school year, he loves being part of Leo Club, Key Club and National Honor Society, which all do a variety of community service projects, and outside of school he also enjoys volunteering with his family for projects like Toys for Tots, Habitat for Humanity, and Thanksgiving in the Valley. Moravec said nothing brings him more satisfaction and happiness than helping others in need, and that’s why volunteering will continue to be a big part of his life even after he graduates from GHS in May.

GERING – During the school year, Lucas Moravec never catches much of a break.
He’s busy with homework, of course, but the 4.0 student is also involved in a variety of activities at Gering High School, including Quiz Bowl, Student Council, cross country, and track and field.
His favorite thing to do each week, though, is volunteer, including serving as a mentor to young children at Lincoln Elementary School in Gering. He usually goes there every Wednesday during his lunch hour, and he’s been doing that each of the three years he’s been involved in Leo Club at Gering High School.
“I love spending time with the kids and getting to know them,” the senior said. “I like being their friend, and I like trying to be a positive role model to them, especially since some of these kids maybe don’t have a great role model in their life.”
