OBITUARY: Charlene F. Cain, Palmer, Bernhardt of Gering

Charlene F. Cain, Palmer, Bernhardt, 66, of Gering, passed away at home peacefully surrounded by family on January 7, 2021.  Her funeral service will be held at 10 AM on Wednesday, January 13, 2021 at Gering Memorial Chapel with Father Mike McDonald officiating. The service will be livestreamed over the Gering Memorial Chapel facebook page.  Cremation will follow the service with inurnment to take place at a later date at the West Lawn Cemetery.  Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.  Online condolences may be left at www.geringchapel.com

Charlene was born January 15, 1954 at Grand Island, Nebraska to Lawrence C. “Pat” and Maureen (Whyte) Cain.  She received her education in Scottsbluff and Gering Schools.  She was united in marriage to Dennis G. Palmer on May 10, 1975 at Torrington, Wyoming.  He passed away in 1982.  She married William “Bill” Bernhardt on June 10, 1988 at Torrington, Wyoming.  He passed away in 2010.

Charlene worked at the Gaslight Lounge, the Scottsbluff Villa Nursing Home, the Western Nebraska Veterans Home, and had a home day care.

She was affiliated with the VFW and American Legion Auxiliaries.

She attended Christ The King Catholic Church prior to ill health.  Her greatest honor was to be the mother of seven children.  She loved them very much and was very proud of them.

She enjoyed crafts, wedding flowers, cooking, barbequing, family holidays, and get togethers at the lake.

Charlene is survived by her children: Matthew S. (Lynn) McLeod of Scottsbluff, Allen Palmer of Detroit Lakes, MI, Brenda (David) Caudillo of North Platte, NE, Kevin Palmer of Scottsbluff, Tonia Schick of Gering, Travis Palmer of Gering, and Denny (Amanda) Palmer of Gering; 17 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; sisters Mary (Fred) Fredrick of Green Cove Springs, FL and Sheila (Alpha) Warfield of Anchorage, Alaska; brother Tom Cain of Longmont, CO; nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

Charlene was preceded in death by her parents, both husbands, son-in-law David L. Schick, brothers Sam Cain, Mike “Kano” Cain, Pat Cain, and John Cain, and sisters Jackie Kuxhausen and Katie Cain.
