Our loving mother, Rose C. Hernandez, age 89, of Scottsbluff, Nebraska, died on December 9, 2021 at Regional West Medical Center. A visitation will be on Thursday, December 16, from 4:00pm to 7:00pm at Dugan Kramer Funeral Chapel. Her Funeral Service will be Friday, December 17, at 10:00am at the funeral home with burial at Fairview Cemetery. The Castillo family would like to extend a special thanks to the doctors and nurses of the ICU at Regional West. Rose was born on December 7, 1932 in LaFeria, Texas, to Manuel Castillo and Manuela Gonzalez. She married Joe Otero and had four children before they divorced. She later married Joe Hernandez. Rose’s many interests and loves included making doilies, solving word puzzles, and watching “Gunsmoke.” She loved to cook for her family and friends. She never forgot a name or a birthday and made many friends throughout the years. She will always be remembered in our hearts. We miss you, mom.
Survivors include her brothers and sisters Ignacio (Francisca) Castillo, Paul (Mary) Castillo, Nick Castillo, James (Ester) Castillo, Francis Strickland, Theresa Moreno, Aurora Moreno, and Mardi (Ray) Williams; children: Richie (Dolly) Otero, Eddie Otero, Virginia (Bruce) Armstrong, Tom Otero, Dennis Hernandez; grandchildren Derek, Kaiani, Melissa, Erick, Carl, Sara, Nicole, Shayla, Katie, and Kassady; 10 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law Bessy Castillo and Martha Castillo; and several nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Ramon, Robert, Guadalupe, and Joe “Pepe”, and sisters-in-law Serapio Moreno, Frances Castillo, Frances Castillo, and Alex Castillo.
