BRIDGEPORT — Jim Vassos has never tried to make his story sound bigger than it is.
He has lived in Bridgeport his entire life — 84 years in the same town, the same rhythms, the same wide-open sky that frames the North Platte Valley. When asked what it means to have never lived anywhere else, he doesn’t offer a rehearsed speech or a romantic slogan. He answers the way a man does when he’s spent decades letting actions speak first.
“Well, hard to answer that question,” Vassos said. “I can only relate to living somewhere else by watching television and seeing what people’s lifestyle is otherwise, but to me, this is as good a place as any – to live and raise a family. I have no desire to live anywhere else and have no regrets that I didn’t get a chance to live somewhere else.”
