LISCO — Riverview Lodge didn’t begin as a grand plan to build an events center
in the middle of the country.
It started with a problem that rural Nebraska knows well: people were coming, and there simply wasn’t a nearby place that fit what they needed — not just a bed, but a base of operations, a gathering spot, a warm place to settle in after the day was done.
Riverview Lodge got started back in 2004-2005 by the lodge’s founder, Jim & Gwen Jessen of Lisco. Gwen takes the story back to the earliest version of what guests see today. In those first years, the property looked far different than it does now.
“It consisted of that one unit down the sidewalk from the main lodge,” she said. “That was the first thing that went in here.”
