FEATURE: ‘I want to help as many children as I can have a happy ending’

Ten years ago, Missi Iasillo of Scottsbluff became a CASA of Scotts Bluff County volunteer, which helps provide abused, neglected and exploited children a voice in court. Iasillo enjoyed making a positive difference in the lives of children so much that she’s continued to stay involved in the program, and she even became the volunteer coordinator four years ago. Iasillo, who’s also the co-coordinator of the CatPacks/PupPacks program for children with food insecurities in Scottsbluff/Gering, recently started a Foster Family/CASA volunteer drive to find more people who are willing to help give local children involved in tough situations a better life.

SCOTTSBLUFF – Missi Iasillo was helping at First United Methodist Church in Scottsbluff one day about 10 years ago when she struck up a conversation with another church volunteer who was also serving at the time as the director of CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) in Scotts Bluff County.

The director told Iasillo about how much CASA impacts young people’s lives.

“I didn’t know anything about CASA before that, but when she started talking to me about it – about how volunteers advocate for children, including many who have been abused or neglected – I got really interested in it,” Iasillo said.
