GERING – Kennie Gable, a senior at Gering High School, is Nspire Today!’s Female Student of the Month for December, sponsored by 16th Empire Restaurant in Scottsbluff. At school, Gable is involved in speech, musical, Harmony, student council, Key Club, National Honor Society, Tri-M Honor Society, GGAA, volleyball (libero), and dance. She’s also on the student leadership advisory committee, and she’s a student ambassador. She has a 3.975 GPA. After she graduates from high school, she plans to attend college. The schools she’s considering are Chadron State College and Northeast Community College in Sterling, Colorado. As far as a college major, she’s considering communication and broadcasting as well as criminal justice. Her parents are Stevie and Travis Gable. For being named a Student of the Month, Kennie will receive a gift certificate for a free meal at 16th Empire Restaurant.

Q: How has your senior year of school been going?

GABLE: “It’s been fun. I’m super grateful that we’ve been able to be in school despite COVID. We still get to do sports and other activities, which is great. I’m also happy I get to see my teachers in-person.”

Q: Has this school year seemed different to you because you’re a senior?

GABLE: “Yes, it has been different. You realize that your high school career is almost over, so you want to make the most of everything left. I’ll miss high school when it’s over, but I also know that every good chapter has an end, so I’m just going to take it all in these next few months and accomplish everything I can.”

Q: For the most part, have you achieved everything you wanted to in high school up to this point?

GABLE: “Yes, I have. I really, really wanted to finish out volleyball, and I was able to do that. This season we finished even better than I thought we would. We made it to the district championship game, so I’m super proud of our team. I also want to finish out the speech season, and I hope we can still have our musical.”
